Career: Public school teacher, administrator and consultant; director of education, GE Women’s Job Corps; various professional appointments at Alabama’s Tuskegee Institute, St. John’s University, NY and Texas A & M; Professor and coordinator of graduate program in education administration, Queens College, NY

Community: Active in professional and civic organizations; founder of New Rochelle, New York Retired Educators Consulting Services; and Westchester Association of Women School Administrators

Teaching is Barbara’s lifelong passion reflected in a trail blazing career as a black woman in education. Barbara earned her way to two successful firsts, one as a public school principal in New Rochelle, NY and the other when she became an emeritus professor from CUNY. Her love of teaching did not stop with retirement. She continued to share her knowledge by conducting workshops on life planning for retirees. Her advice to those seeking a retirement community? “Spend as much time as you can on campus before you make your decision.”
